Timothy C. Lindsey, Ph.D.

Dr. Tim Lindsey has over thirty years of experience associated with helping organizations improve their sustainability performance in their processes, products, and systems. He helps customers use sustainability focused business strategies and principles to drive innovation and build competitive advantage throughout their value chains. Dr. Lindsey works with individual business units to embed sustainability principles into both corporate roles (research, product development, human resources, strategy, and risk) and operational functions (supply chain, manufacturing, quality, logistics, dealerships and customer processes).
He is an accomplished program and project manager with experience in multiple industrial sectors, including: manufacturing, maintenance, energy management, agriculture, food processing, biofuels, chemical processing, and electronics. He served as Caterpillar’s Global Director of Sustainability from 2012 to 2016 after spending 20 years at the University of Illinois where he led their sustainability research, education and outreach efforts. Prior to his academic career, he was with Exxon for 7 years where he served as Environmental Engineer, Safety Manager and Senior Project Manager at one of the world’s largest mining operations.
Dr. Lindsey is a nationally recognized expert regarding the use of sustainability principles to drive innovation. He has produced multiple publications on energy efficiency, alternative energy, alternative fuels development and sustainable business innovation. He is the author of 3 U.S. patents. He is a Senior Associate of the AHC Group and a Senior Energy Advisor to the University of Illinois Smart Energy Design Assistance Center.
He holds B.S. and M.S. degrees in Environmental Engineering from Southern Illinois University and a Ph.D. in Urban and Regional Planning from the University of Illinois.
